Linux Wifey Experiment (Ubuntu 12.04 w/ gnome shell) Month 1

A month has gone by and my experiment has been a success.  My wifey will keep Linux on her box.  After a month of getting used to it she is now capable of being comfortable with Linux. Just like any os just takes time with it to start to enjoy using it.  I will keep her on Ubuntu 12.04 w/ gnome shell since it is the daily driver she used to.  Might give her another distro like elementary os or mint later on.  I'll update this if I do.

List of applications she uses.  She uses banshee for her iPod.  Chrome as her web browser. Shot well as her photo management program. Cheese for her camera application.  Netflix desktop app for her viewing needs.

Linux wifey experiment ( Ubuntu 12.04 w/ gnome DE) week 3:

So this week had a issue with third party application causing her Linux box to freeze.  She was upset when it was freezing on her but she used my Linux box and noticed no issues using it to watch Netflix and use the net.  It was a issue with a third party app starting up on boot and it was missing dependencies.  I tried to update it and nothing so I took it out and reinstalled.  Also turned off the startup on boot for this app.  This could of happened with any os sometimes apps act up.  The third party app was drop box if anyone is curious.

Linux Wifey Experiment (Ubuntu 12.04 w/ Gnome) Week 2:

So she hasn't had any complaints this week. She just got her new Logitech c270 webcam plugged it in and the mic and camera work fine on it out the box. I tested it with cheese camera app and Google hangouts. She getting used to it but still asks me about things like how do I update her apps. I told her just press update manager and it updates all your apps. She was astonished how easy that is compared to other OS's. Looks like Linux will be a main stay in her box. Giving it another two weeks before I call her a new founded Tux user lol.

Linux Wifey Experiment (Ubuntu 12.04 w/ Gnome DE) Week 1

So far not that many complaints from her she is just getting over the very light learning curve to use linux as a daily driver. Main things she was worried about are handled well in linux. Rythmbox works perfectly with her Ipod just plug in and use like itunes. Her nexus 4 and 7 work perfectly now I have installed the drivers here is the link below if you need them. My printer a canon mp series worked out of the box just plug in play. Even scanned with my printer was easy using simple scan that is in Ubuntu by default. Chrome and Netflix installed perfectly Netflix desktop app link below. I installed office 2007 using PlayonLinux easy as installing on windows. It does all the work for you. Shotwell works well also just like iphoto so very little learning curve there also. So far I think she likes it because there is no hassles. She asked me if she needed antivirus protection on Linux. I told her why you think I wanted you on Linux less troubleshooting for me when you click a ad and you get a blue screen of death lol.

Conception:

Just made this PC for my wifey and installed Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome DE as a experiment. To see if she could use it with no issues. She is used to Mac and windows but never used Linux. I'll update next week but I doubt she will miss Mac or windows
